Description

A comforting dish featuring tender beef, aromatic vegetables, and rich gravy, perfect for busy weeknights or a cozy Sunday meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced into small, even cubes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat for about 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 2–3 minutes until fragrant and onions become translucent.
  4. Stir in sliced mushrooms, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Season with salt and pepper, and allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix the frozen vegetables with flour until coated. Add this mixture to the skillet, stirring well.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and spread it evenly. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy your hearty Amish Hamburger Steak Bake!

Notes

Suggestions include swapping ground beef for ground chicken or turkey, and pairing the dish with a side salad or crusty bread.
