A cozy, energizing take on the classic matcha latte, this banana bread matcha combines ripe banana, warm spices, creamy milk, and smooth matcha for a comforting cup.
Ingredients
1½ to 2 tsp matcha powder (latte-grade or culinary, sifted)
2 oz hot water (175–185°F)
1–2 tbsp banana bread syrup (see homemade option below)
6–8 oz milk of choice (whole, oat, almond, etc.)
Ice (as needed for iced version)
Pinch of cinnamon or spice (optional)
For Homemade Banana Bread Syrup:
1 ripe banana, mashed
⅓ cup brown sugar
½ cup water
Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
¼ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Sift 1½ to 2 tsp of matcha powder into a bowl or mug.
2. Add 2 oz hot water (175–185°F). Whisk until frothy.
3. Stir 1–2 tbsp banana bread syrup into 6–8 oz milk.
4. For iced: Fill glass with ice, pour milk mix, then top with whisked matcha.
5. For hot: Warm milk and syrup, pour into mug, then add whisked matcha.
6. Optional: Garnish with cinnamon, nutmeg, or matcha powder.
7. To make syrup: Simmer mashed banana, brown sugar, water, and cinnamon for 5–7 mins. Strain, add vanilla, and cool.
Notes
Try oat milk for a creamy vegan version.
Store leftover banana syrup in the fridge for up to 1 week.
For stronger matcha flavor, add an extra ½ tsp.
