Description
Classic Christmas sugar cookies with soft centers, crisp edges, and a simple icing for decorating.
Ingredients
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
¾ cup unsalted butter
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract (optional)
3 cups confectioners’ sugar
½ tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp light corn syrup
4.5–5 tbsp water
Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
2. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
3. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well.
4. Combine wet and dry ingredients to form dough.
5. Divide, roll, and chill dough for 1–2 hours.
6. Cut shapes and bake at 350°F for 11–12 minutes.
7. Cool completely before icing.
8. Mix icing ingredients until smooth.
9. Decorate cookies and let set for 24 hours.
Notes
Roll dough before chilling for clean shapes.
Freeze undecorated cookies for up to 3 months.
Add almond or peppermint extract for a holiday twist.
