Description
Bright green Grinch sugar cookies with chewy centers, crisp edges, and a red heart on top.
Ingredients
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
2/3 cup granulated sugar plus extra for rolling
2 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 to 5 drops green gel food coloring
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
12 red heart sprinkles
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Stir together the melted butter, sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla until smooth.
3. Mix in the green gel food coloring until evenly tinted.
4. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, stirring until fully combined.
5. Shape the dough into 12 balls and roll each one in granulated sugar.
6. Arrange on the baking sheet and bake for 10 to 11 minutes.
7. Press a red heart sprinkle onto each warm cookie immediately after baking.
8. Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before moving to a wire rack.
Notes
Store at room temperature for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
Dough balls may be frozen for up to 3 months and baked from frozen with 1 to 2 extra minutes of bake time.
Baked cookies also freeze well and can be thawed at room temperature.
