Description
A fun and savory snack for the holidays. These Mini Pesto Puff Stars feature red and green pesto wrapped in buttery puff pastry and baked into a golden wreath.
Ingredients
2 sheets puff pastry
50g green pesto
50g red pesto
1 egg
20g grated parmesan
Instructions
1. Unroll one sheet of puff pastry and cut it in half across the middle.
2. Spread the green pesto on the top half and the red pesto on the bottom half.
3. Unroll the second sheet of pastry and place it on top, pressing everything down together.
4. Use a medium sized star cutter to cut out star shapes from the pastry.
5. Take a piece of parchment paper and a large dinner plate.
6. Draw around the edge of the plate so that you have a perfect circle marked out on the paper.
7. Arrange the stars on the paper, following the circle shape round and overlapping the stars slightly.
8. Whisk the egg in a small bowl with a fork and brush onto the top of the pastry stars.
9. Sprinkle the grated parmesan on top.
10. Bake in the oven at 200°C fan for 15 minutes.
11. Serve directly on parchment or transfer to a platter.
Notes
Use milk instead of egg for an egg-free option.
Don’t throw away pastry scraps—bake them separately.
Add chili flakes or pine nuts for extra flavor.
