Description

Classic soft and chewy molasses crinkles with crackly sugar tops and warm spice flavor.


Ingredients

Scale

¾ cup shortening

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

¼ cup molasses

2 ¼ cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

⅓ cup granulated sugar for rolling


Instructions

1. Cream shortening and brown sugar. Add egg and molasses.

2. Whisk flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. Add to wet mixture. Chill dough 2 to 3 hours.

3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare baking sheets.

4. Roll dough into balls, coat in sugar, and bake 10 to 12 minutes. Cool briefly then transfer to rack.

Notes

Chill dough for best texture.

Use fresh spices for richer flavor.

Do not overbake to keep cookies soft.
