Description

A delightful breakfast casserole combining the classic flavors of a Monte Cristo sandwich, perfect for family gatherings or brunches.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Gruyère)
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 cup diced turkey or chicken
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and spread them evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stir in the diced ham, turkey or chicken, and half of the shredded cheese.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes until puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning.
