Description
Cheesy scalloped potatoes baked in a rich cheddar sauce.
Ingredients
4 russet potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch slices
1 yellow onion, sliced into rings
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups whole milk, room temperature
1 1/2 cups mild cheddar cheese, shredded
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F and spray an 8×8 dish.
2. Layer potatoes and onions.
3. Melt butter, add flour and salt, whisk 1 minute.
4. Add milk and cook until thickened.
5. Add cheese and melt completely.
6. Pour sauce over potatoes and cover with foil.
7. Bake 85 to 90 minutes.
8. Broil to brown the top if desired.
Notes
Use Yukon Gold potatoes for a buttery option.
Add ham for a full meal.
Slice potatoes evenly for best results.
