Description
Deliciously light and fluffy treats that are perfect for breakfast or dessert, these Vanilla French Beignets come coated with a dusting of powdered sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of dough into it—if it bubbles and rises, it’s good to go!
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the beignets from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- While they are still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy with your favorite beverage!
Notes
Store any leftover beignets in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For a twist, consider adding chocolate chips or spices like cinnamon to the batter. Pair beignets with a fruit compote or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an extra treat.
